Episode 13: Dragon's Bane and Serpent's Passage

Welcome folks to another episode of Scenarios 101! With this episode we start the final stretch of Scenarios with Tier 4 High Elf vs. Dark Elf!

Dragon's Bane

Dragon's Bane is an 18 vs. 18 Scenario based on the highlands of Dragonwake. Anyone in Tier 4 can participate in this Scenario when Dragonwake is contested.

Both Realms start behind massive gates in this Scenario. Three gates which open up into the wide spaces of Dragon's Bane are available to players. This Scenario is definitely not one for walking between capture locations! Speaking of capture locations, there are three in this Scenario: The Academy (middle objective), The Commorancy (north objective), and The Summoning Tower (south objective). Both The Commorancy and Summoning Tower are in elevated areas, while The Academy is surrounded by water with bridges and shallow water entry ways.

Dragon's Bane is an objective map, meaning that in addition to killing enemy players, you must capture and hold any of the objectives to earn points. While this is a very simple premise, things get tricky when you mix in Dragons. When any of the three objectives are captured, the altars that flank the area near your spawn points will be enveloped in flame as the Sun Dragon Beacon or Black Dragon Beacon appear (in the form of a glowing flag). Only one beacon per Realm can be in play at a time. Carrying this flag to an enemy-held objective will call down either a Sun Dragon (for Order) or a Black Dragon (for Destruction) to wreak havoc on the enemies in the area for a short period of time. Calling down the Dragons isn't required for capturing the objectives, but it sure does help!

Three capture locations and 18 people means you have a lot of options. Move as one unit taking objectives one by one, or split up and try to take all three. The Academy is the hardest one to defend since the objective can be assaulted from almost all angles, while the Summoning Tower and The Commorancy can be assaulted from only two angles. The wild card in this Scenario revolves around the tactical usage of the Dragons (or artillery, if you want to call it that). If you see someone running at your captured objective with a glowing ray of light, kill them before they get there, or you're in for a world of hurt!

Serpent's Passage

Serpent's Passage is a 12 vs. 12 Scenario based on the turbulent islands just off of Dragonwake. Anyone in Tier 4 can participate in this Scenario when Dragonwake is contested.

Based off the Isle of the Dead, the terrain is barren with some rocks jutting out of the ground here and there. Both Realms start on the southern side of the Scenario and must rush northward to the Shipwreck which houses the Salvage Parts. One team must grab the Salvage Parts and bring them back to their spawn location. While most of the terrain is a beach or flat lands, a few large jutting rocks can be used for alternate travel routes around the map, to assault the enemy or duck and run. At its core, the map is triangular with paths across cross the middle scattered throughout the terrain.

The rules for Serpent's Passage are simple... grab the Salvage Parts from the shipwreck and bring them back to your ship. Salvage Part carriers are denoted by the familiar glowing spire to the heavens, so you know exactly who to attack. Whenever you successfully deliver the parts, you get points. Killing players also gives you points, but not quite as many. Be warned that carrying the Salvage Parts into the ocean will reset them in addition to causing negative effects to your character.

With one "flag" to fight over, this Scenario operates very much like a hybrid between Talabec Dam and Mourkain Temple. The Salvage Parts carrier doesn't generate points over time for carrying the parts, but delivering the parts will grant you a hefty chunk of points. Your best bet is to get a healer to carry the Salvage Parts as they're the most likely to survive the barrage of damage. The second choice carrier would be a tank or Marauder/White Lion with Charge to make up ground quickly. This map caters to several tactics of either mass-defending or mass-assaults, but one thing is for sure, don't roam around Serpent's Passage alone!

That's it for this episode of Scenarios 101! Stay tuned for the final Tier 4 High elf vs. Dark Elf Scenarios!
