Who is EA Mythic?
EA Mythic is one the most prolific and successful online gaming developers in the industry today. Since it was founded in 1995 (then Mythic Entertainment), EA Mythic has been one of the leaders in developing pay-for-play online games and is currently one of the most successful developers of Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Games.
What games has EA Mythic done prior to this?
EA Mythic has created over fifteen games and expansion packs. Our older titles include some of the most popular online-only games of their time including: Spellbinder: The Nexus Conflict, Aliens Online, Starship Troopers: Battlespace, Silent Death Online, Rolemaster: Magestorm, Darkness Falls, Darkness Falls: The Crusade, Splatterball, Godzilla Online and Dragon's Gate. Our most famous product is Dark Age of Camelot which has been one of the leading MMORPGs in the world since its release in 2001.
What is an MMO(RPG)?
A MMORPG is a Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game, more commonly called an MMO. In MMOs (including Dark Age of Camelot ), tens of thousands of people can adventure together or separately in worlds that are created by a game company. The most successful MMORPGs to date have several hundred thousand monthly subscribers. These types of games are created by teams that can range in size from forty developers to over a hundred developers, and can cost over ten million dollars to produce a AAA title. Some games currently in development are rumored to cost many times that.
What makes a MMO different from a single player game?
Besides the fact that tens of thousands of people can play this type of game at the same time and interact with each other, the biggest difference is that MMORPGs can be constantly updated with new content and challenges for the player. In the case of Dark Age of Camelot, Mythic creates new content and improvements for the game on a regular basis. Throw in five retail expansions, and you have a game that since it was released in 2001, has increased dramatically in size, scope and features. This type of dedication to new content is what sets online games apart from single player games.
What is Realm vs. Realm™?
Realm vs. Realm, or RvR, is a term trademarked by Mythic during the development of Dark Age of Camelot. RvR is team-based Player vs. Player (PVP) game-play where each realm works together toward a common goal. Players choose a side by selecting a race and, in the case of Warhammer Online, they battle it out in areas and work toward goals provided by the game, including Scenarios, Keep Siege, and City Siege. It means that a player never has to fight alone because there is always an army of allies that has his back. Players can choose to level up in RvR areas, or stay in safer, Player vs. Environment (PvE) areas until they are ready to jump into the real battles of WAR.

Is this the same Warhammer MMORPG I have heard about in the past from another developer?
No. That game has ceased development and the developer has moved on to other projects. Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning will be a next-generation MMORPG that will serve as the standard bearer for both EA Mythic and Games Workshop.
When will Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning be available to the public?
WAR is coming your way in the fall of 2008!
What about subscription fees? Will there be game cards for payment? Will there be a lifetime subscription? Will I be able to pay for a year in advance?
Warhammer Online will require subscription fees that are competitive with current titles. Currently we're in the planning phase of billing, and we're looking into various options including game cards and different subscription levels, but no final decisions about payment plans or options have been made at this time.
What are the computer specs for Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning?
It's still a little early for us to release any information regarding system specs. However, we plan to make the game accessible to as many people as possible--We want WAR to be everywhere!
Will Warhammer Online have official forums?
EA Mythic does not run its own forums, but we strongly support the efforts of our community and their many forums and fan sites. We regularly check-in with these sites to share news and information about the development process, and hear from the community regarding their questions and feedback on the game. Please visit our Forums & Fansites page for a list of sites where you can find others waiting for WAR.
What will the game be rated?
We do not have an official rating for Warhammer Online as of yet, but we're shooting for a Teen rating.
What format will WAR be available in at launch?
WAR will be available on DVD in a retail package and via digital distribution.
Will there be a Mac/other platform version?
Currently, we only have plans to launch Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning on the PC.
What are your plans for European distribution?
EA Mythic is partnered up with GOA for European distribution and hosting. Visit www.war-europe.com for more information.
Will Americans and Europeans be on the same servers?
No, our partner GOA is handling all European distribution and all the European servers. They're also handling the translation issues for the German, Italian, Spanish, and French players. We are working much, much more closely with GOA than we did on Camelot. The experience of the typical GOA player, and that of the typical player in North America, should be exactly the same with all content being released simultaneously.
Will you have servers set up in one location, or in different locations around the world?
Currently we will have servers in both the U.S. and Europe. EA Mythic will operate the U.S. servers and our partner GOA will provide the same services in Europe for a number of languages and countries. We are always considering new partners and locations to bring WAR to as many people as possible.

What is the difference between Closed Beta and Open Beta?
The Closed Beta Test is an invite-only program protected by a Non Disclosure Agreement (NDA) in which a select portion of the community is chosen to test the beta version of Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning and offer feedback directly to the development team via in-game tools and private message boards. During our Open Beta, we open testing up to a much larger audience. However, unlike many traditional "Open Betas," WAR will only be available to a limited number of players (including pre-order customers). Stay tuned for more details concerning the WAR Open Beta and ways in which you can get in.
How can I get into the Closed Beta Test?
There are a number of opportunities to secure a spot in the Closed Beta Test, but the best way is to be an active member of the WAR community! Here are some examples:
Subscribe to the newsletter! We randomly choose 20 newsletter subscribers each month to win a Beta spot. If you are not already a subscriber to the newsletter, click here to subscribe.
Send us Fan Art or Fan Fiction. If we like what you do and feature it in the newsletter, we'll invite you into the beta.
Come visit us at a show. While on the road, we give out numerous chances to get into the beta.
Keep an eye out for special promotions and contests in gaming magazines and on online sites. We will be offering chances to win a Beta spot in the future.
There will be plenty of additional Beta access opportunities as we move closer to launch, and we'll be sure to post the information in the newsletter and on the official WAR website: www.warhammeronline.com so check back regularly!
As a reminder, ordering the Collector's Edition of Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning will get you a spot in our Open Beta test, but you have to order fast; there's a limited supply!
Does everyone who signs up to beta test WAR actually get to participate?
Not necessarily. Though we would love to allow everyone who signs up to participate in the beta, there is limited access to our closed beta test and access is not guaranteed. Our WAR Beta signup (https://betacenter.eamythic.com/login.php) explains this in great detail: "There are a limited number of Closed Beta spots available and not everyone that applies will be admitted. Closed Beta testers will be selected based on a variety of factors, including computer system specs, game experience, newsletter subscription, and community involvement. The Closed Beta is limited to players 18 years of age or older, and requires the acceptance of the Beta Test Agreement located at the bottom of this form."
What about coming to an event, doesn't that get me into closed beta?
Not always. Coming to an event gives you a chance to get selected for a beta slot except for certain special events where we are giving away slots in the beta. We have always been careful to ensure that those who receive the cards understand that entrance into the closed beta is not guaranteed. This is stated on all cards that we have handed out since we began giving them out. At a minimum, getting a card at most events gives you a better chance to get into the beta and a higher priority than simply signing up on our beta page.
I signed up in the Beta Center, when will I get in to the beta?
Signing up on the Beta Center does not guarantee access to beta at any given time. Winning contests and adding Beta Associations will increase your chances of getting into beta. Remember, all winners must meet eligibility requirements in order to receive an invitation to the closed beta test. If you signed up a long time ago and since then you have made changes to your computer system, be sure to update your dxdiag in the Beta Center!
I keep hearing that Mythic isn't letting a lot of new people into the beta! Why?
Over the next few months the plan is to gradually increase the number of invitations we send out, and therefore the number of closed beta participants. The plan has always been to allow a greater number of people once all the core systems are in the game in one form or another. Large scale and prolonged beta testing of an MMO without all the core systems would be pointless and frustrating for the testers. Remember, we are getting to the point where we want a lot of people to be able to play the game continuously and experience everything that WAR has to offer, even if it is still a little rough around the edges.
When is the Open Beta going to start?
Open beta will begin shortly before launch of the game, which is currently slated for Fall of 2008. Please keep an eye on the Warhammer Herald (herald.warhammeronline.com ) for more information as it becomes available.
I preordered the Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning. How do I get into the beta?
All players who pre-order WAR are eligible to get into the open beta. For more information on preordering, please refer to the Preorder Section of this FAQ.
What about the Guild Beta, when is that going to start?
We understand how frustrating it is that the Guild Beta has been delayed. Guilds represent some of the most experienced MMORPG players in our community, and we want them to see the game when it is in really good shape so they can have as positive an experience as possible with a beta product. Because we want this game to be great, we have pushed back our release date. With changes in release schedules come changes in dates for phases of the beta. Once we can lock down a date for the guild beta, we will begin contacting the guilds so they can prepare to unleash death and destruction on their opposing realm.

I live in Canada, how can I pre-order?
You can pre-order your copy of WAR from EB Games Canada, the EA Store and other fine game retailers.
I preordered online. How do I get my codes?
Each retailer may do it differently, and we have no control over the distribution of their codes to pre-order customers. However, you will generally receive a separate email specifically containing your codes (in some cases it can take several days). You must contact your retailer concerning this; please do not contact EA Mythic Customer Support as we will be unable to assist you.
How do I get into the beta if I already preordered?
Pre-ordering any version of Warhammer Online gets you an invitation to our open beta, but does not increase your chances of getting into the closed beta. Prior to March 26, 2008 no pre-order programs have been supported by EA Mythic. If you have pre-ordered before the above date please contact your retailer.
I entered all of my codes into the Beta Center, but some of them came back as invalid! Did I get the wrong codes?
The only code that you need to enter at this time is the Beta Promo Code. That will give you the pre-order association. Please hold on to the remaining codes. You will need them when we get closer to launch, in order to claim your special items and join the head start program.
Will I be able to play the game before my box arrives, especially the Head Start?
Yes, you will be able to participate in the Live Game Head Start prior to receiving your box copy of the game. More details will follow as we move closer to launch, so keep an eye here!
Do I need my WAR Product Key the day the game launches?
While we encourage you to get your WAR product key as soon as possible, we will provide a reasonable grace period for players to get a hold of their copies and have uninterrupted service following the Live Game Head Start.

What sort of content will WAR offer? Will it be mostly RvR, or will there be some PvE as well?
While we spend much of our time talking about RvR and encouraging players to try it out, we offer countless hours of PvE content as well, including Quests, Public Quests, dungeons, and more!
Can I compete with other players in RvR if I spend most of my time soloing in PvE content?
Absolutely! While you'll be able to level independently in either RvR or PvE, you'll be able to decide at any time to hop over and experience the other areas of the game with ease. Now, with that said, the most EFFECTIVE way to play will always be to engage in both PvE and RvR from the very beginning.
Will I be able to make characters on the same server for both factions? Example: an Empire and Chaos character on the same server?
No, players are only allowed to have characters of one faction on a server. If you want to try out another faction, you will have to create a character on a different server.
Can you do the quests in an allied area or can you only do quests in your own race's zones?
You can absolutely quest in any allied realm.
What kind of downtime are we looking at for health and power (or whatever you're calling magic's energy source)?
We are actively trying to minimize downtime, and make sure that in most circumstances it is measured in seconds, and not minutes.
Will players have other means of regenerating their health or action points besides resting?
Aside from healers who can restore HP, there will be potions, elixirs, draughts, etc. that can regenerate health and/or Action Points.
What is the maximum level you can reach?
The maximum level a player can reach is 40. However, once you reach max level there is still a large number of things for you to do. You will continue to gain Renown Ranks through RvR, explore dungeons designed for experienced adventurers, search for hidden talents and tome unlocks in your Tome of Knowledge, and even lay siege to the enemies city itself and capture their king!
Being that the level cap is 40 in this game, and most games out currently have a level cap of 60 plus, will this shorten the game? Is leveling slow? What rewards will leveling produce?
Things like level caps aren't really comparable from one game to another. We could have a thousand levels and a game that plays "shorter" than another game with 50 levels. We could have ten levels and have it play "longer" than a 50 level game. We're not trying to keep players away from Level 40 by forcing them into an endless grind of leveling. Our high-end content is the crowning jewel of the game and we WANT players to get there in a reasonable amount of time and see just how cool and engaging and dynamic it is.
It's also a matter of how and when you want to be granting players new advancements, decisions, career branches, etc. and also what your end-goal for players is. In WAR, the number of places where you're going to be able to advance your character is far more involved than many other games, so you'll have a significant amount of goals to achieve in any given level - including things like standard abilities, tactics, morale abilities, Tome of Knowledge unlocks, Renown rewards and so forth. You'll be making choices and accomplishing career milestones very frequently.
If I die during a public quest and I miss parts of it/it ends while I'm running back to the area, do I still get rewarded?
If you're involved in a Public Quest in any (positive) way, you'll get rewarded. No exceptions. You earn Influence for your participation and can "spend" that on associated awards. The more you participate in a PQ, the more Influence you earn and the cooler the Influence Rewards you'll get to choose from. When a PQ is successfully completed, those players that participated the most will also have the best chance of winning the loot dropped by the boss.
Will players be able to share current quests they are on?
Yes, there will be many quests available which can be shared among group members under certain circumstances.
Will low level players be able to get to cities without many problems?
Cities and access to cities was designed so that players as low as level 7 would be able to travel to a city and find content awaiting them. All city content ranges from level 7 up to level 40, but if you're daring enough to brave the paths, you can enter as early as level 1.

<< Back to Top
Will collision detection work on friends, enemies, or both?
We'll be testing various implementations of collision detection between now and launch. At the very least, collision detection will be turned on in RvR combat with enemy players.
Will we be able to loot other players' corpses in RvR?
Yes! Every player has an independent item table assigned to them that can be looted by enemy players who kill them; however, this item table is NOT drawn from that player's personal inventory. You will never lose items or gold from being looted by an enemy player.
Okay, then what kind of rewards can you get from RVR?
Gold, armor, weapons, renown (and, by extension, renown items), the eternal satisfaction of slaying a hated foe, etc.
What is Renown?
Renown is the system which measures Realm vs. Realm (RvR) participation by a player. It functions as an experience system for RvR and players can "level up" to earn Renown ranks that show their proficiency at fighting the opposing Realm. Renown gain is also capped based on a character's level so a player can't be Renown rank 40 and player rank 5.
The Renown system dictates the rewards made available to a player (items, abilities, titles, or otherwise). Renown is gained through many actions in WAR - killing other players, taking or defending battlefield objectives or keeps, participating in scenarios, and zone control.

How soon can I begin to RvR, and will I be able to get adequate gear solely from RvRing?
You can log in on day one and run straight to the RvR area in the very first zone if you'd like. And you'll be able to acquire plenty of great gear via Renown (which builds during RvR combat).
Even if I can only play a few hours a week, will I still be able to participate and contribute in sieges on the enemy's city?
You will indeed! Especially in portions of the city siege and capture process that involve RvR instances; you'll find that all players are valuable to the causes of both assault and defense. This is due to the importance of the role of balanced, instanced, and time-limited scenario RvR in the final stages of the RvR campaign.
What incentives, aside from bragging rights, are there for players to assault and capture a keep? Will there be Renown rewards for defending a keep successfully and preventing its capture?
Ah, the short answer which begged for more...capturing a keep or battlefield objective will give you Renown Points. Defending a keep or battlefield objective will also give you Renown Points. You will get a base amount of points for taking a keep or battlefield objective, in addition to the points gained from killing players in the area.
I believe it has been mentioned before that Public Quests will affect RvR. Would it be possible for you to give an example of how?
Public Quests contribute to zone control as do standard quests. Every time a PQ or quest is completed, your realm is granted Victory Points. Those Victory Points are fed into a large pool that is shared with Scenarios, open world objectives (keeps and battlefield objectives) and skirmish kills. WAR is a Realm vs. Realm game, and PvE is a part of the war, so of course we include these aspects when determining zone control.
Do you gain any form of PvE bonus, in the form of contribution or experience rewards, for controlling a keep in an area, as opposed to totally controlling an area?
Keeps alone do not grant bonuses. Experience and Renown Point bonuses are granted across the entire zone for controlling battlefield objectives.
Will siege weapons look different based on your race?
Siege weapons will have a race and realm specific feel to them, but they won't have unique abilities based on realm or race. A Chaos ram will function exactly the same as an Empire ram, and a Rock Lobber will function the same as a Dwarf mortar.
For in-depth information on siege, check out the Keeps and Siege Grab Bag.
What are the playable races and how are the races divided into factions?
The races of WAR are divided into two factions, Order and Destruction. To read more about these factions and the playable races, check out the Armies of War section.
If I'm playing a Dwarf, for example, and my friend is playing an Elf, can we play together as long as we're on the same side?
Yes. In Warhammer Online, Dwarfs, High Elves and Empire are allied and can play together. On the Destruction side, Dark Elves, Greenskin, and Chaos can work together. Each race is not restricted to its home, and players are free to travel to the starting areas of their allies if they so choose.
How soon and how easy will it be for players in allied armies to join up? On launch day, if I decide to play a Dwarf and my friend decides to play Empire, will we be able to find each other in game immediately and play together?
Technically, you could join up almost immediately after starting the game, if you know your way around the zones.
Are any races or careers limited to one gender?
One of the things that makes Warhammer such an exciting IP is its rich tapestry of lore and backstory. In keeping with the flavor of this tradition, Warhammer Online’s races and careers have varied accessibility based on gender. The Greenskin are technically only one gender (neither male nor female), and Chaos Marauders and Chosen must be male. Witch Elves must be female—there is no room for a Groom of Khaine! However, Malekith has chosen to unleash the full fury of dark magic upon his cousins by allowing both males and females to become Sorcerers.
What is Morale?
Morale abilities are powerful "charge up" abilities. Morale is earned during combat, and once you have gained enough Morale to use your ability, you can click its icon to activate it. However, once you've used a Morale ability, you'll need to build more morale in order to use another one.
What are Tactics?
Tactics are enhancements that help you fight the way YOU want to. Are you going to equip offensive Tactics to give you an edge as you charge headfirst into battle, or are you you going to equip defensive tactics that give you extra protection against a certain foe? The number of available slots for tactics will increase as you level up.
What are Action Points and how do they work?
Action Points (AP) are a pool available to each character that enables them to use special, powerful abilities. They're a baseline resource that players must manage strategically in combat to guarantee that they are able to execute the right move at the right time in a fight. If the AP pool has been exhausted, players need to wait for it to replenish before executing additional abilities with an AP-cost attached to them. AP regenerates rather quickly, so it never takes more than a few seconds to get back into the action.
How will ability selection work? I understand that each Career has a certain pool of abilities to choose from, but are all of those abilities unique, or is it more of a repetition of the same abilities that just become more powerful as you level?
Players will not be purchasing the same ability over and over, buying different versions of the same skill. Each career will end up with around 20 guaranteed unique actions split between core and base abilities. After that, they can purchase additional supplemental abilities which will increase the player's total number of abilities by about 10-25%, depending on how they choose to spend their mastery points. Overall we expect most players to have approximately 25+ actions available to them at level 40. (This does not include Morale abilities.)
What classes will have the ability to resurrect fallen companions?
For Dwarfs, the Rune Priest. For the Greenskins, the Shaman. For the Empire, the Warrior Priest. For Chaos, Zealot. For the High Elves, the Archmage. For the Dark Elves, the Disciples of Khaine.
Will magic using classes have advantages and disadvantages versus other types of magic?
Yes. Ranged damage of all kinds is broken up into resistance categories (as are all forms of damage, for that matter). Careers (not just magic users) will be weaker or stronger against specific sorts of damage depending on their baseline resistances as well as armor and tactics they are currently using.
Will healers get credit for healing in Public Quests and RvR?
Absolutely! Healing will be just as highly-rewarded as damage dealing in both cases.
In addition to these questions, check out the Grab Bag Archives for detailed information on High Elf Careers

Where can I read about Warhammer Lore that is pertinent to the game?
Before you get into the game, our official Warhammer Online site has some sections where you can read up on lore including: Armies of War, Zone Overviews, and Background Stories. Once in-game, the innovative Tome of Knowledge will unlock many of the secrets that the Age of Reckoning has to offer.
Does the Age of Reckoning take place before, after, or instead of the Storm of Chaos?
The Age of Reckoning is set in the "modern" Warhammer world. This is the world in which Karl Franz is the Emperor in Altdorf, Finubar sits upon the Phoenix Throne, and the High King of the Dwarfs is Thorgrim Grudgebearer.
While Sigmar is the most "famous" god worshipped in the empire, there's a whole pantheon of deities whose religions survive and are still extremely popular in the old world (empire included). Morr, the god of death, Mannan, god of the seas, Shallya, goddes of healing, Ulric, god of winter, Myrmidia, goddes of war, Verena, Goddess of justice and learning, and others. Will we see those religions portrayed at least in NPC dialogues, temples and quests?
Absolutely! You'll hear mention of these other Gods in NPC dialogue, and you'll even meet some of their servants, like the Sisters of Shallya.

What happened to Strigos? Isn't that the proper name for the Mourkain Empire?
When we started crafting our backstory, GW suggested that we use the 4th edition army books as our primary references. These books are packed full of lore, and so we were happy to oblige. In the fourth edition undead book, Strigos is not mentioned. Rather, the capital city and Empire of the Mourkain people (called Morgheim by modern Imperial scholars) are referred to simply as "Mourkain". When it came to our attention that the Vampire Counts army book has some different information, we contacted GW to ask for their advice. They suggested that we stick with Mourkain, and so we did.

What is the relationship of the plague to the invasion of the Empire by the Tzeentch warhost? Aren't plagues more in the domain of Nurgle, the Chaos god of disease and decay?
Ah, the inscrutable Tzeentch. You really only ever know one thing about the way Tzeentch works, and that is that you cannot possibly fathom how Tzeentch works. Would it be beyond him to use misdirection or cloak his schemes by using the device of a rival Chaos god? Certainly not! Is it strange that the plague causes a transformation in its victims, but causes no decay? It might seem strange if you think the plague is Nurgle's doing. As with any good mystery, the devil is in the details, and we won't spoil the surprise by giving those away. These are questions you'll just have to answer for yourself as your Tome unfolds.
Why are you having the Dark Elves control the greenskins?
They aren't. All that Malekith did was set events in motion. The greenskins hardly need to be told to attack the Dwarfs or to start a Waaagh! - these are all things they'd happily do anyway. Malekith simply pointed them in the first direction and empowered Grumlok and Gazbag to be particularly effective Warbosses. As the Age of Reckoning dawns, the Orcs and Goblins are very much acting of their volition.

Will I be able to customize my UI?
Without a doubt! We understand the importance and benefits of having an active UI development community and look forward to working with them.
Will WAR have the players' names over their heads?
Yes, although you will be able to control the display on your own client.
Will movement be "click to move" or free, as it is in Dark Age of Camelot, WoW, and EQ?
Free. If there are any elements of click-to-move, it will be in addition to the free movement, not instead of it. For example, your avatar will auto-face the target on ability use, not on targeting. There may be other examples, but we need to be very cautious to avoid putting in things that could be exploited in the RVR game, however helpful they might be in PVE.
Will there be a /follow or a /stick function in WAR?
There will definitely be some form of /follow for allies to use. It's just too useful. (As Associate Producer Josh Drescher puts it: "The potential harm done to conga-lines by NOT having it would be immeasurable.") The /stick command is a matter of debate at this time. (For any readers NOT familiar with MMOs, is in this context meant to describe a close-quarters version of /follow used on enemies to make staying on target easier.) We need to strike a balance between keeping the game fun for people of all different skill levels - but without removing the value of player skill entirely. We will no doubt test many different versions of this function before we make a final decision.
