With our feet firmly planted in the new year, a new patch out the door, the live event active on the servers, and our thoughts on the future, it seems a good time to take a moment to detail some of those thoughts and plans for Warhammer Online in an open letter to the community.
Our most immediate plans revolve around evolution of our current patch. Version 1.4.5 introduced the concepts of Relics to Open RvR in Tier 4 as well as the reintegration of the Fortresses. After a few weeks of testing on PTS, which included quite a number of hosted test events, we were able to take some of the feedback and get it up with the patch. However, there were other good suggestions and tweaks that came out of that testing directly or indirectly which couldn’t make it into version 1.4.5; we want to get them done and introduce them as soon as we can. To that end, we are currently working on 1.4.5a, an interim patch that will add some functionality, messaging, and tweaks to the fortresses and relics. There are active discussions about what is involved specifically in this patch over on the Dev Discussion forums, so head over and put your two cents in.
After we finish up 1.4.5a and get it on the live servers, we’ll be shifting gears a bit for the 1.4.6 patch cycle. Based on suggestions and feedback in the forums, we’ve decided to change our priorities slightly. Instead of concentrating on our next addition to Open RvR, tentatively dubbed as Dynamic Objectives, we have moved our focus to a bug fix patch. During this patch, we’ll be looking for feedback on outstanding bugs and complaints. Similar to the 1.4.5a patch discussion, we have a thread going in the forums about what people consider their highest priority bugs or issues with the current game.
Once we work on some existing issues with 1.4.6, we’ll be shifting back to finish up the Dynamic Objectives system for the next patch. This system is designed to provide objectives that will tie into the campaign based on dynamic variables. An example of this would be that as forces draw together and engage in the lake, a new objective will spawn that will provide resources or rewards to the warring parties. The goal is to give more fun and rewarding things to do that revolve around small to medium scale skirmishes.
As well, we have a new Live Event type encounter in the works that will pop up in a later patch and evolve over time. We’ll have more information about this as we move forward, but the operative word here is demons.
After our immediate and near term goals, we have longer term plans that include changes to crafting and finalizing and incorporating the Tier 7 appearance armor that we previewed near the end of last year. We talked briefly about some crafting changes in our long range plans last year, but based on feedback at the time, we moved it further ahead in our schedule, but we haven’t forgot about it. Likewise, the Tier 7 appearance armor has been slowly but surely being finished and implemented in our sister project; meaning that once it’s final we can shift it back over and get it in WAR and in your hands.
On a non-patch related note, we’ve heard your feedback and we are actively looking at a way to clear up some of the inactive names on our servers. As soon as this is finalized and we can offer you more information, we’ll let you know. As well, we have some new ideas for pets and other items for our store.
So there you go, a quick look at some of the immediate to long term goals for Warhammer in 2012. Before I finish, I want to thank everyone that helped on PTS for the latest patch, your feedback and testing help were invaluable. As well, to all the people on the forums, we love your input; keep it coming. Thanks for reading and thanks for playing Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning.
See you on the battlefields!
